Delete your Away Team account or data

Away Team (published by Dade Media LLC) lets you delete your account and associated data at any time. This page explains two paths: deleting specific data without deleting your account, and deleting your account and all associated data.
Delete specific data without deleting your account
Self-service: leave or delete a trip
- On a trip you own: open Trip Info and tap Delete trip (type the trip name to confirm). This permanently deletes the trip and all of its data — activities, checklist items, polls, bookings — for every member.
- On a trip you don't own: open Trip Info and tap Leave trip. You are removed from the member list and your identity is stripped from content you contributed (activities, polls, checklist items). Comments you wrote and poll votes you cast are deleted.
- Owner who wants to leave without deleting: use Transfer ownership on Trip Info to hand the trip to another member, then you can Leave the trip.
Manual data deletion request
If you need specific data deleted that the in-app tools don't cover, email support@awayteamapp.com from your account's email address with the data you'd like removed.
This path does not delete your account or profile. If you want your entire account removed, see the next section.
Delete your account and all data
How to request deletion
- Send an email to support@awayteamapp.com from the email address associated with your Away Team account. Sending from the account's own inbox is how we verify the request is genuinely yours.
- Subject line: Delete my Away Team account.
- In the body, confirm that you want your account and data deleted. You do not need to include a reason.
- We reply within 5 business days to confirm receipt and let you know when deletion is complete (typically within 14 days of confirmation).
If you are unable to email from the account's address (for example, the inbox is closed), contact hello@awayteamapp.com and we will work with you to verify your identity through another means.
What gets deleted
- Your authentication record, including your email address and password hash
- Your profile — display name, avatar, and account preferences
- Your per-account quota overrides and trip counts
- Your traveler entries in any trips you were part of
- Your membership in any shared trips (you are removed from the member list)
Trips you own
Trips where you are the owner are handled based on membership:
- Shared with other members: ownership transfers to another member of the trip, and the trip remains accessible to them. You are removed from the member list.
- You are the only member: the trip and all of its data — days, activities, checklist items, polls, and bookings — are permanently deleted.
What we keep, and for how long
- Backups: backups of our production database may retain your data for up to 30 days after deletion. After 30 days, all backup copies are purged.
- Audit logs: internal audit-log entries that reference your user ID are retained for compliance and abuse-prevention purposes. These logs are not visible in the app.
- Content contributed to shared trips: activities, checklist items, bookings, and poll votes you added to trips you shared with others remain visible to the remaining members of those trips. Where we store your identity on those records, we remove it.
